July I/OCE Updates to Correct Cardiology Edits
The July update of the Integrated Outpatient Code Editor (I/OCE) is scheduled to include updates on some cardiology edits that have caused billing issues. These edit errors have resulted in claims being held until the edit corrections are installed.
The first relates to the billing of HCPCS code C1882 (Cardioverter-defibrillator, other than single or dual chamber (implantable)) with CPT code 33249 (Insertion or replacement of permanent pacing cardioverter-defibrillator system with transvenous lead(s), single or dual chamber). CMS has not been allowing claims with these codes to bypass the procedure-to-device code edits. This will be corrected with the July I/OCE updates.
An error in the original publication of the CPT manual caused an edit relating to CPT code 33225 to also be erroneous. The original CPT instructions failed to include CPT codes 33228, 33229, 33263, and 33264 as primary codes appropriate to use in conjunction with add-on code 33225. Also CPT code 33222 is being removed as an appropriate primary procedure for 33225. CPT has corrected this instruction and CMS plans to correct their edits with the July I/OCE update.
